Town of Rocky Mountain House statement on the Bighorn Country proposal

TRMH.png

The Bighorn Country proposal would make significant changes to the west country as we
know it today.

The Town of Rocky Mountain House first saw the proposal on Friday, Nov. 23, at the same time as it was made available to the general public.

The West Country Public Land Use Zone, as proposed, nearly borders the Town’s western corporate limits. All of council is very interested in understanding the province’s rational behind the plan and learning how it might affect our residents and the town’s future. We are still in an information-gathering phase.

Elected officials from the Town and Clearwater County had an introductory meeting with Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) officials on Friday, Nov. 30. AEP has also committed to meeting with us again in the near future.

The Town of Rocky Mountain House welcomes investment that will grow tourism and strengthen economic development in our region, however we cannot emphasize enough the need for the province to thoroughly consult with and consider input from residents, business-owners and municipalities within the immediate Bighorn Country proposal area.

On Nov. 30, we stressed the need for public open houses, and feel we were listened to.

In the meantime we join our Clearwater County neighbours in encouraging all local residents to read the proposal and share your views with the province.

We have a few printed copies of the proposal available at the Town Office for residents who cannot access it online.
