Alberta Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program (Government of Alberta)

Your tax dollars are used to fund municipal services and operations such as policing, public works, roads and parks. Your tax dollars also fund education and seniors housing. The amount that you pay for municipal services, provincial education and seniors housing is detailed on your tax notice.

It is important to note that your council only controls the tax rate for municipal services. The provincial government determines the amount the town must collect for education and seniors housing on its behalf.

Combined Property Assessment and Tax Notices
The Assessment Roll and Taxation Roll of the Town of Rocky Mountain House are prepared under the provisions of the Municipal Government Act. Combined Property Assessment and Tax Notices are mailed out each year in May. 

The Assessment Roll is available for inspection during regular business hours at the Town of Rocky Mountain House located at 5116 – 50 Avenue. A limited assessment roll is available online.

If you have concerns about your property assessment contact the Property Tax Clerk at the Town Office (403-845-2866), who will try to resolve your concern before you file a formal appeal. 

If you wish to appeal your property assessment you must do so in writing within sixty days from the mailing date of the Notices. The Final Date of Appeal is a legislated time limit and cannot be extended under any circumstances. Find out more about the appeal process here. Additional important information regarding the Appeal process can be found on the reverse side of your Notice.

Pre-Authorized Tax Instalment Payment Plan
The Town of Rocky Mountain House offers pre-authorized tax instalment payment plans to help property owners meet their taxation obligations. This program may be a benefit to you. The following are some of the highlights of the plan:
  • Your instalments for January - April will be based on your previous years' taxes divided by 12 equal monthly payments.
  • When taxes are levied for the current year, your monthly payments will be adjusted to pay property tax and assessment notice which is mailed in May.
  • There will be no penalty levied on unpaid current taxes for those participating in the plan.
  • On signing an authorization form, your monthly payments will automatically be deducted from your bank account. A void cheque or authorization form from your bank must be included with your tax pre-authorization form.
  • All tax arrears must be paid before you can participate in a plan.
  • You may enrol at any time.

Other Payment Options

Property taxes are due yearly on the 31st of July. 

Cashchequebank draft or debit  payments are accepted at the Town Office (5116-50 Ave) during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Electronic Fund Transfers (EFTs) can be completed at any time from your home computer or device via online banking.

Due to high transaction fees, credit card payments are no longer accepted for municipal taxes. You may still pay your municipal taxes by credit card via www.paysimply.ca. This secure, third-party Canadian payment provider will charge the cardholder a transaction fee.



Change of address for property tax assessment notice

Under the Municipal Government Act, Section 337, a tax bill is considered to have been received by the property owner seven days after mailing.

If you require a change of mailing address for your property tax assessment notice, you can print off the Change of Address Form and return it to the Town Office:

Be sure to change your mailing address through Alberta Land Titles as well, as it is the property owner's responsibility to keep the information on Alberta Land Titles up-to-date. You will require the legal description of your property which is shown on your tax bill.
