There are many different locations in the Rocky Mountain House area that are open to hiking.  Many of these spots are easy to reach and are well worth the hike.
  • Beginning with the Kootenay Plains, a protected area for wildlife and the home of the beautiful Siffleur Falls.
  • Abraham Lake, created by the construction of the Big Horn Dam is another point of interest.
  • Ram Falls, Pinto Lake, Shunda Mountain, and Coliseum Mountain all have excellent hikes with spectacular views of the valleys beyond.
  • From the David Thompson area you can even hike across to the Jasper and Banff Mountain Parks.
  • Near the Nordegg Hostel there are shorter trails that take you along peaceful creeks to beaver dams and quiet picnic spots.
Hiking Books
Unless you are familiar with the area we suggest that you consult one of the books about hiking in the our area such are Hiking the David Thompson Highway or the Backroads Mapbook, both of which are available for purchase at the Visitor Centre.

Remember to alert others about your plans and to take precautions to avoid getting lost. You can register at the Nordegg Hostel of your planned hike.
